Why Executive Support Now Involves More than Business
When we think of Executive Assistants, Project or Team Coordinators and support staff of any kind — fades away the Mad Men image (thank goodness!!!)
Executive Support is becoming more holistic for a variety reasons:
- Technology — We are available 24/7 meaning our work is a part of our lives 24/7
- Bootstrapping — As more creative roles and companies open they’re looking for ways to optimize their spend and still receive high level support.
- Commitment to their role — I don’t like using the word demand as I feel most of the demand Executives have, are placed on themselves. I’ve worked with many people who are fuelled by the passion of their projects and roles and WANT to be great at what they do.
What does this all mean?
Gone is the 9–5 where we punched a time clock and left our honest days work behind us. Roles are more creative, more exciting, all encompassing, and with the advancement of technology our jobs and work life have easily become a part of our home, family, and social life and in turn can impact our overall health.
As the demands and commitments of the executive grows so does their assistant. EA’s are now crossing over into other roles blending the lines of PA with EA, advisors, researchers, personal shoppers, motivators, accountability coaches and work/life coaches.
This is how N.Johnstone & Co came to be whether you’re approaching us for the purposes of health and wellness OR as an Executive or CEO first. We know first hand the effects that stress can have on your overall health and want to give you the best possible chances at living your life to the fullest and growing to your highest potential.
Do you believe the role of Executive Assistant is changing? We’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback.
Until next time,
